BATAAN CELEBRATES 263rd FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

BALANGA, Bataan - The historically-rich province of Bataan is celebrating its 263rd founding anniversary with week-long activities slated between Jan. 6 to 11.

Being among the last stands of American and Filipino soldiers during the World War II, Bataan's historical events, traditions, arts and culture will take the center stage during the occasion with the theme " “Makasaysayang Nakaraan, Bunga ay Maunlad na 1Bataan”.

The celebration already started with a historical symposium at the Bataan People’s Center and a Trade Fair showcasing the Galing Bataan products on Tuesday.

Also lined up are the 1-Bataan Amazing Race to be participated by 15 teams who will in explore Bataan, it’s historical and tourist spots on Wednesday. 

Government employees will see action in several games dubbed as Laro ng Lahi that aims to strengthen the unity and cooperation of the employees on the fourth day. 

At 6pm on Friday, there will be a cultural show featuring local talents and the popular indie folk/folk pop band Ben & Ben, whose first film was shot at the Plaza Mayor de Ciudad de Balanga. 

Also a highlight is thee Parade of Floats and Festival Street Dance competition to be participated in by the eleven municipalities and lone city of Bataan.



Established in 1757 by then Governor General Pedro Manuel Arandia out of territories belonging to Pampanga and the corregimiento of Mariveles, which at the time, included Maragondon in Cavite across the Manila Bay, the province had more than its share of significant historical events. 

Jointly filed by 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman and 2nd District Representative Jose Enrique Garcia III, HB 3718 was approved by the House of Representatives and was enacted into law when President Duterte signed Republic Act 11138 “An Act Declaring January 11 of Every Year a Special Non-Working Holiday in the Province of Bataan in Commemoration of its Founding Anniversary to be known as Bataan Foundation Day.”



Bataan Governor  Albert Garcia said, “Our province has turned 263 years old. We're grateful to God for this gift, for giving us a place where we can live peacefully and comfortably.

Our province's rich history reminded us of the gallantry of Filipino and American soldiers during the Japanese occupation.

After that war, we're waging a new war for our economy, livelihood, education and health”.
