ANGELES CITY—The Philippines struck its first gold medal in Southeast Asian Games arnis this Sunday, thanks to Dexter Bolambao who defeated his Burmese opponent in the men’s full contact (live stick) under 55 kilogram division.
Also vying for gold on Sunday are Nino Talledo (men’s 55-60 kg), Villardo Cunamay (men’s above 60 kg) and Mike Banares (men’s above 65-kg.)
This was the first time in 14 years that the indigenous sport of arnis has been hosted in SEA Games.
The last time was in 2005 when the Philippines previously hosted the biennial games.
