Nadiskubre sa ginawang pag-aaral ng University of the Philippines Mindanao ang betacoronavirus sa isang uri ng paniki sa rehiyon.
Ayon sa lead researcher na si Lyre Anni Murao sa GMA News, natagpuan ang virus sa long-tongued nectar bat (macroglossus minimus) matapos ang tatlong taong pag-aaral dito.
“Bats have been known to be reservoir of viruses. And ibig sabihin ng reservoir, they carry the viruses in their body but they are not affected by the viruses,” ani Murao sa isang episode ng Stand for Truth.
Dumadaan daw sa mutation ang virus at ina-adapt ang katawan ng host.
Matatandaang isa ang paniki sa tinuturong pinagmulan ng coronavirus outbreak sa China.
